You Can Support the News You Need and Want

Believe in local journalism? With the sad decline of Patch and even the Los Angeles Times and L.A. Weekly, remains your only source for real news about West Hollywood.

Now there are two ways that you can help us help you by continuing  to give you the news you need and want:

WEHOville recently joined the Institute for Nonprofit News, an organization whose members include prestigious media outlets such as KPBS, CalMatters and WitnessLA. That affiliation gives us tax-exempt status
  • You can subscribe to a morning email blast that will alert you to all stories published by WEHOville in the previous 24 hours. Those who don’t subscribe will still have full access to the site online but will not receive the alerts.

More About Us

I have been a reporter, editor and media business executive for more than 40 years, with a career stretching from the 1,200-circulation weekly Butner-Creedmoor News in my home state of North Carolina, where I did pretty much everything as a one-man band, to The New York Times, where my last position was vice president for new media/new product development.

I moved to West Hollywood in October 2011 with the intent of continuing my lucrative media consulting practice. But I quickly fell in love with this city and discovered it lacked the professional and objective news coverage every community needs to grow and thrive.

So I launched In terms of readership, it has been a success. Google Analytics, an objective data source, shows we have had a monthly average of 95,000 readers this summer, a number that grew to 101,000 in October.

But given that 60% of digital advertising goes to Google and Facebook, a hyperlocal online news site isn’t an easy way to make money these days. In fact, as I tell my friends, I’ve never worked harder and made less money in my adult life. But at the end of the day, it’s doing what you love that matters, not what makes you rich. And if you’ve read this far, it’s clear you love West Hollywood as much as I do.

Questions? Suggestions? We Want to Hear Them

If you have questions or concerns or story suggestions, please let me know. I consider you, our readers, to be partners in this venture as we move forward, and I welcome your insight and feedback — email me at  All communication me about possible stories will be confidential unless you agree otherwise.
