Support the News You Need and Want!

Believe in local journalism? With the sad decline of Patch and even the Los Angeles Times and L.A. Weekly, WEHOville.com remains your only source.

A subscription is your way to fund more in-depth reporting on subjects such as City Council elections, real estate and commercial development, crime and public safety and what’s going on inside City Hall. And then there’s our coverage of the people and events that make this city great.

More About Us

I have been a reporter, editor and media business executive for more than 40 years, with a career stretching from the 1,200-circulation weekly Butner-Creedmoor News in my home state of North Carolina, where I did pretty much everything as a one-man band, to The New York Times, where my last position was vice president for new media/new product development.

I moved to West Hollywood in October 2011 with the intent of continuing my lucrative media consulting practice. But I quickly fell in love with this city and discovered it lacked the professional and objective news coverage every community needs to grow and thrive.

So I launched WEHOville.com. In terms of readership, it has been a success. Google Analytics, an objective data source, shows we had more than 190,000 readers over the past three months, with most of them concentrated in Greater WeHo and Los Angeles. But a hyperlocal online news site isn’t an easy way to make money these days. In fact, as I tell my friends, I’ve never worked harder and made less money in my adult life. But at the end of the day, it’s doing what you love that matters, not what makes you rich.

Why a Subscription Plan?

We’re hoping this subscription plan will generate enough money to allow us to expand our coverage into WeHo-adjacent areas that have an impact on life here (like that 8150 Sunset Blvd. project and the project at 431 N. La Cienega Blvd.) And we want to continue the in-depth coverage of our elections and who is funding them and dig into the data and answer the question: Who owns WeHo?

When I say “us,” I mean a small but great team that includes Doug Stichler, our advertising and marketing director, and Enoch Miller, our superb taskmaster. Then there are the smart and talented freelance writers and contributors such as James Mills, David Warren, Carleton Cronin and David Hakimi, to name a few.

So if you think West Hollywood deserves its own independent local news source, please subscribe now. What you get is assurance that we will continue to shine a bright light on what’s happening in our city and continue to provide a platform for discussing the issues that really matter.

We won’t bar non-subscribers from access to WEHOville (we want everyone to know what’s going on.) But subscribers will get an email every morning containing a list of the stories published on WEHOville in the previous 24 hours  — you’ll never have to worry about missing what’s going on.  We also are listing all of those who support this community by supporting WEHOville and our coverage of local news.   We are proud to have them backing us.
