While we don’t have to worry about an actual fire, dangerous weather conditions associated with the Saddleridge fire may have an impact on West Hollywood.

In a statement released this morning, the City of West Hollywood said that wildfires may affect air quality as winds carry smoke and particles across the Greater Los Angeles Area. “Sensitive individuals, such as those with heart disease, asthma, or other respiratory diseases, should follow recommendations to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure and to limit physical exertion (whether indoor or outdoor), such as exercise, when air quality is affected.”

The city’s statement follows a red flag warning by the National Weather Service that a moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event will continue to bring dangerous fire weather conditions to most of Los Angeles County throughout late Friday afternoon.

The Saddleridge Fire, which began on Thursday in the Sylmar area, has forced mandatory evacuations affecting tens of thousands of people in communities such as Porter Ranch in the north San Fernando Valley.

The Los Angeles Fire Department is providing regular updates about the Saddleridge Fire on its website and on Twitter. This includes details about evacuations and containment updates.

“The City of West Hollywood encourages community members to review emergency preparedness plans. Plan ahead with neighbors, family members, and for pets and refresh emergency supply kits, water, and food supplies,” says the city’s statement.

It smelled liked rubber tires and metal were burning as was the case of homes and cars and propane tanks. 4 separate fires at the same time spanning 4 counties in a 30-60 mike radius. This is so discouraging since this is the 4th year in a row that fires have consumed our counties from the coast… Read more »
