Palisades, a Los Angeles real estate developer, on Wednesday will celebrate the groundbreaking of a 53-unit apartment building at 1250 N. Fairfax Ave.
The project lies on the east side of Fairfax just south of Fountain Avenue. The project, long in the making, replaces four two-story apartment buildings that currently are boarded up and empty.
The project will include 12 affordable units for low and moderate-income residents. The five-story development, slated for completion in 2020, will include four connected buildings organized around a central courtyard. The contemporary take on the traditional courtyard style was designed by R&A Architecture + Design and is inspired by the works of famed Southern California architect Irving Gill.
The groundbreaking ceremony, to which West Hollywood city officials are invited, will begin t 9:15 a.m. with remarks at 9:30 a.m.

Nothing Irving Gill about this. He never designed that type of windows, never did that type of Mid-Century screen wall, never did any balcony railings like that, etc. the only thing I can figure is that there is some white stucco involved. Saying it has something to do with Gill is a pretty worthless comment.

It may not be so much the cha ching idea but a lack of design sensibility with the decision makers on planning commission. They appear to review projects in a vacuum devoid of neighborhood contect and without the necessary aesthetic expertise and tools.
The current designs are this eras contribution to past eras housing complexes, human warehouses that take away everything a neighborhood should be. Except for some artfully placed trees this looks vacant and dispiriting.
53 units, 12 affordable, inspiration from Irving Gill sounds promising.
Another boring building for the east side. This “design” doesn’t even look contemporary. Another Altshul (sp?) fail.
