Once again, for the West Hollywood haters, no good deed goes unpunished.
Typical.

Not sure why the recent two events matter to you (even though there have been FOUR recently) but OF COURSE the city planned the PSA after these tragedies. THREE. PEOPLE. HAVE. BEEN. KILLED. CROSSING. THE. STREET. WITHIN. A. YEAR. And countless others injured whilst the city did nothing, N-O-T-H-I-N-G but sit on their hands all of this time and they really think a PSA is the answer???? REALLY? In that case,
maybe unicorns and smurfs can be brought in to get the message across too!

Tom – show me that this was only planned AFTER the two recent events (which involved illegal jaywalking, much more difficult for the city to prevent) and you might have a case to make.

Otherwise, of course, it has nothing to do with what you claim.

Everything else aside, as someone said above, who will even see this PSA??? Total waste of money. Seems to me the city is trying to deflect blame for these injuries and deaths.

SV is open, apparently has been for some time. It’s pretty funny to see the Hate WeHo All the Time club members, whose latest jeremiad against the city has been its supposed lack of interest in pedestrian safety issues, operate in lockstep kneejerk action when presented with proof that the city actually has the issue high on its agenda. This PSA, which common sense would suggest has been in the works before the latest interest in the subject, makes their claims untrue. So what is the reaction? Denounce the PSA without knowing any of the details, the financing, the use… Read more »

City workers last week posted flyers in the neighborhood. Flyer made it look like this was a TV or movie scene shoot rather than a silly PSA.

To give you idea of the scope of this thing, flyer said there would be about 50 extras involved in the shoot.

How big a boondoggle? As John said: Can’t wait to see the bill.

There better be go go boys, grumpy cat and Bianca Del Rio in the video or no one will bother. Can’t wait to see the bill for this.

not true Chris. anything can be done at any time with our without the consent of resident/voters and can circumvent current laws. the city, county state and federal agencies can work together to change anything they want in a reality based world everything is subject to change. now, back in the horse and buggy days people never expected/needed/wanted change. Progressive thinking was considered a mental illness. Today, however we have progressive thinkers who are willing to look at making changes which better suit our developing communities rather than hold us back. Some changes do affect a portion of the people… Read more »

Once again, West Hollywood can not legally shut down SMB. It is California State Highway 2. And West Hollywood legally is tied into a regional street system where one municipality cannot close a major thoroughfare within its limits.

And if SMB shut down, the havoc it would create on other streets that go through the city would make WeHo unliveable.

SMB is not remotely similar to 3 St, whose closing only had an impact within Santa Monica.

I live in a reality based world, not fantasy land as seems to be the case with some posters here.

I’m glad “getoverit” and “Cy Husain” aren’t running for council……or are they???…..yikes!

But seriously folks, 10 hours is a heck of a long time to close SVB. What could possibly need that much time?

Chris, this reminds me of a line of Norma Desmond in Sunset Blvd when she was about to be arrested and she was told that the cameras are downstairs she said : “Cameras?” and her eyes lit up like Christmas lights. Our city Council is a group of Norma Desmonds who crave free public attention and cling to the “good-old-days” when they were effective. They will be out there for their “close-ups” for the PSA during an election year but hide away during the rest of the year. Its absolutely entertaining to sit at a council meeting and just watch… Read more »
