The City of West Hollywood will host “Matters of the Mind – A Community Forum on Understanding and Responding to Alzheimer’s and Other Related Dementias” on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the City Council Chambers, located at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. south of Santa Monica.
“As the aging population increases, the rates of Americans with Alzheimer’s and other dementias will grow,” said Councilmember Lindsey Horvath. “It’s important that we take opportunities to learn about what this means for our older adults and seniors who are aging in place and how we can respond more effectively in supporting their needs.”

The City of West Hollywood will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon to celebrate the completion of renovations to the city-owned Werle Building, which houses the West Hollywood Recovery Center, the ONE Archives Gallery & Museum and the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives.
The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. The building is located at 626 N. Robertson Blvd. at the corner of El Tovar Place. Members of the City Council will attend. The event is free and open to everyone. No RSVP is required. There will be light refreshments. Parking will be available at the five-story West Hollywood Park/Public Parking Structure, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard; validations will be provided at the City Council Chambers lobby, adjacent to the structure.

The City of West Hollywood will honor veterans and active members of the United States Armed Forces during its annual Veterans Day program on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial, located on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Holloway Drive.
Members of the community are invited to join city officials, city staff members, and representatives of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station and the Los Angeles County Fire Department in honoring local veterans.
This year’s theme is “Transgender Individuals in the Military.” During the program, members of the West Hollywood City Council will recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

“Selected Works,” an exhibition featuring ten sculptures by Los Angeles-based artist Shana Mabari, is newly installed in the Blue Lobby at WeHo’s Pacific Design Center and will remain on view for one year. The pieces, ranging from 2014 to 2016, include six round translucent and mirrored pieces from Mabari’s “Diametros Petals” series. Three cube sculptures, one mirrored and two blue, are from her “Illumetric” series of geometric sculptures, as is the “Illumetric Rectangle.” The red, white and blue work stands ten feet tall and is internally illuminated with LED lighting.

Gabriela Kohen, the critically acclaimed New York actress, playwright, and drama therapist, will perform her autobiographical one-woman show “Decoding the Tablecloth” at Congregation Kol Ami from 7.30 to 10 pm. on Saturday, July 17. She will also perform on Sunday, July 18, in Venice at Beyond Baroque from 3 to 5pm. A wine and cheese reception with the artist follows the performances.
In English, Yiddish and Spanish, Ms. Kohen portrays over 20 characters from five generations. Her Jewish/Polish grandmother escapes from the holocaust to Argentina, and the family later immigrates to Brooklyn. Intensely moving, and at times humorous, her narrative provides insight into the transmission of trauma, resilience and wisdom from one generation to the next.

Friends of Rosewood Elementary is hosting a bingo night Sunday at Hamburger Mary’s to raise money for the school’s garden and library programs.
The event is from 8 to 10 p.m. A suggested donation of $20 will cover 10 bingo games. All money raised by the event will go to the Rosewood Elementary programs.
The event will include prizes and food and drinks are available. Reservations are suggested for groups of four or more people. Hamburger Mary’s is located at 8288 Santa Monica Blvd., on the southeast corner of Santa Monica and Sweetzer.

David Cooley, owner of The Abbey and Barbara Poma, owner of Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, are hosting a fundraiser for the onePULSE Foundation recognizing the one-year mark of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy on June 12, 2016. The event will be held June 5 at The Abbey in West Hollywood.
Several survivors will be at the event to share their stories.
The ticketed event will take place at The Chapel, adjacent to The Abbey. The event begins at 7 p.m. with a cocktail reception followed by a seated multi-course dinner.
