A panel discussion hosted by the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association – Los Angeles (NLGJA-LA), and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Bi Task Force, BiNet USA & the ONE Archives Foundation will cover what journalists and other media professionals should know about the bisexual community.

Advocate.com managing editor Michelle Garcia will moderate the discussion. Panelists will talk about what it means to be bisexual; positive and problematic media coverage of the bisexual community; health disparities and other issues that affect bisexual people; and upcoming opportunities to cover the bisexual community in Los Angeles. Garcia will also moderate an audience Q&A so that guests can ask panelists their questions about bisexuality and covering the bisexual community.

Panelists will include: Curt Duffy, a teacher, writer and a member of the steering committee of the Los Angeles Bi Task Force; Heron Greenesmith, who leads the Movement Advancement Project’s (MAP) LGBT movement research analyses and conducts research in support of MAP’s public policy work; Denise Penn, editor of BiMagazine (BiMagazine.org) and board member of the American Institute of Bisexuality; Mike Szymanski, co-author of “The Bisexual’s Guide to the Universe: Quips, Tips and Lists for Those Who Go Both Ways” and the National Bisexuality Examiner; and Karen Yin, executive editor of Origin Magazine, Mantra Yoga + Health, and Thrive Magazine.

Doors will open at 6:30, with the panel discussion starting at 7 p.m.
