Olivia Lua, the adult actress whose death last week at the age of 23 has prompted worldwide media coverage, passed away in West Hollywood.
Lua’s body was removed Thursday afternoon from Klean West Hollywood, the addiction treatment center at 850 Hilldale Ave. She is said to have been suffering from a prescription drug addiction.
The death of Lua, whose real name was Olivia Voltaire, was particularly disturbing to those in the adult industry and its fans because she was the fifth female porn star to die in the last three months.
“’What is killing our porn stars?’: After Olivia Lua, Olivia Nova, August Ames, Yuri Luv and Shyla Stylez die at young age, fans demand action” read a headline in the U.K.’s Mirror.
Olivia Nova, 20, who like Lua was represented by LA Direct Models, was found dead in a Las Vegas hotel on Jan. 7. Nova’s friends said she had a serious drug addiction. The coroner ruled that her death was a from sepsis brought on by a severe urinary tract and kidney infection.
August Ames 23, whose real name was Mercedes Grabowski, committed suicide in Camarillo in December. Yuri Love, whose real name was Yurizan Beltran, died at the age of 31 of an apparent drug overdose at her home in Bellflower. And Shyla Stylez, 35, whose real name was Amanda Friedland, was found dead in bed at her mother’s home in Armstrong, British Colombia, this past November. Stylez found herself in the middle of some controversy in 2005 when the Orange County Weekly in 2005 revealed that she had been engaged in illicit sex with Orange County assistant sheriff George Jaramillo, who was married.
“Much comment has been recently made on the number of adult stars having passed in the last year and with great sadness we must inform that the list has grown longer. We learned today that Olivia Lua passed away this morning — may she rest in peace,” LA Direct Models said in a statement Thursday.
Lua performed in adult films such as “Sneaky Sex,” “GF Revenge” and “Vixen.”
