This report lists Part 1 (serious) crimes for the date range shown and is not meant to be a complete list of all serious crime. Oct. 23
Armed Robbery (Suspect Arrested). 7100 block Santa Monica Boulevard at 9:15 a.m. A man removed items totaling $532 and left the store without payment. When confronted by store security, the suspect swung a metal pipe and attempted to hit the victim. Responding deputies located and arrested the suspect. #05780

Grand Theft. 8900 block Santa Monica Boulevard at 7:15 p.m. An unknown suspect removed an employee’s cell phone from the back office area. Loss $1,000. #05820

Oct. 25
Grand Theft. 1000 block North Kings Road between 11:31 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. An unknown suspect removed four boxes of fresh seafood from the rear of the delivery truck while the driver was making a delivery. Loss $1,100. #05822
Residential Burglary (Attempt). 8600 block Rosewood Avenue at 9:26 p.m. A man reached his arm into an open kitchen window and removed the screen. The suspect fled the area before gaining access to the residence. No loss. #05830
Vehicle Burglary. 7200 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 11:25 p.m. and 1:15 a.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed a backpack containing a laptop computer from the front floorboard. Loss $1,950. #05839
Vehicle Burglary. 8900 block Ashcroft Avenue between 6:30 and 2 p.m. An unknown suspect ransacked the interior and removed a baby stroller and costumes from the back seat. No sign of forced entry. Loss $250. #05847

Oct. 26
Residential Burglary. 7700 block Fountain Avenue between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. An unknown suspect removed a laptop computer from the bedroom and an X-Box game from the living room. No sign of forced entry. Loss $1,300. #05851
Vehicle Burglary. 900 block Fairfax Avenue between 8:25 and 11:15 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed a computer bag containing a laptop computer, headphones, and a checkbook from the trunk. The suspect also removed a baseball glove and cleats from the trunk. Loss $3,600. #05864.
Vehicle Burglary. 300 block North Robertson Boulevard between 6:30 and 11:30 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed a pair of headphones from the back seat. Loss $700. #05866

Grand Theft. 7300 block Santa Monica Boulevard between at 4:45 a.m. and 3:25 p.m. An unknown suspect removed four pairs of sunglasses and one set of diamond earrings from the glove box of the unlocked vehicle. Loss $2,700. #05927

Petty Theft from Private Residence. Westmount Drive and West Knoll Drive. 11:15 a.m.
Perhaps it is time to patrol the streets as we did before cityhood. Most of the thieves are punks, probably many are homeless. In the days when it took the police several hours to respond, citizen patrols made a difference. We need cops on bikes 24/7 in residential areas. We need an enhanced Neighborhood Watch program with good resident response. If the city cannot provide proper protection, citizens must do it for themselves. Just sitting and watching the constancy of car burglaries is ridiculous. is
If your trunk can be accessed via a broken window perhaps you should take your stuff with you.

Funny how every week there are backpacks stolen with laptops in them. Overpriced laptops. I have been thinking for weeks that people have been padding the estimated values of items stolen. Good examples are the Oct. 26th backpack with laptop valued at $ 3600 and headphones valued at $700 on the same day!
