The City of West Hollywood is continuing its installation of four pedestrian crosswalks with traffic lights on Santa Monica Boulevard. The city expects to have the project, which began July 10, completed by the middle of this month.
This week the contractor will be removing existing striping by wet sandblasting on Tuesday night. This work will create some noise and dust. On Wednesday and Thursday night, the contractor will install all new striping and signage within the entire work area. The work will take place between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The contractor will have daily lane closures in the immediate work areas between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Actions taken during the rest of this week include:
— Monday: The contractor will pull cable between the Westbourne Dr. and West Knoll Dr. intersections.
— Tuesday: The contractor will install the SCE meter pedestal services at all four intersections.
— Wednesday: The contractor will install the new traffic signal controller cabinets at all four intersections. Traffic detection loops will be installed within the street.
— Thursday: The contractor will terminate wires for the traffic signal controllers at all four intersection and replace removed concrete sidewalks.
— Friday: The contractor will terminate wires for the traffic signal controllers at all four intersection and replace removed concrete sidewalks.
To accommodate the construction, parking meters in the immediate work area may be signed with temporary “No Parking signs” that will be posted 24 hours in advance.
The crosswalk at Santa Monica Blvd. and Palm Ave. will remain closed until the new striping is complete.

When will they paint the crosswalk on the pavement at Santa Monica at Palm Ave? That intersection’s crosswalk has been wholly unusable during this entire process as they moved the crosswalk from the west side of Palm to the east side of Palm while not yet painting the road to indicate that there’s a crosswalk there.
I parked up the street from Santa Monica and went to 24 hour fitness. I returned just before 8AM to find a temporary sign posted “No Parking” contractor vehicles only. The sign was not there when I parked and if I had not returned in time I fear I would have received a parking ticket in violation of a sign that was not posted when I arrived. Why are the contractors even given special parking permits in a Permit Only Area?
