West Hollywood City Councilmember Lindsey Horvath has announced her appointment of Amanda Laflen to the city’s Public Safety Commission.

Laflen, who is the general manager of Mel’s on Sunset, will replace Estevan Montemayor, who Horvath had appointed in 2015. Montemayor stepped down from the commission last month and recently was named a board member of Christopher Street West, the nonprofit that puts on the annual L.A. Pride parade and festival.

“I’m pleased to share that I will be appointing Amanda Laflen to the Public Safety Commission,” Horvath said in an email to other applicants for her appointment. “Among her many talents and interests, she’s a resident of more than 15 years in West Hollywood and a long-time manager at Mel’s on Sunset – a WeHoan who lives, works, and plays in the city! I encourage you to get to know her, as I believe you’ll come to find she’s a great ally on the issues of importance to you.”

Laflen’s appointment follows a more dramatic change that took place in June when Robert Oliver, who is field deputy for L.A. City Councilmember Paul Koretz, was chosen as an at-large member of the Commission, replacing Ben Coleman. The Council’s decision came after a lot of behind the scenes lobbying for Coleman and for Larry Block, owner of The Block Party apparel store and a civic activist.

In addition to Laflen, Commission members are Tory Berger (nominated by Meister), Marcy Norton (nominated by John D’Amico), Desiree Sol (nominated by John Duran) and Jeffrey Waack (nominated by Mayor John Heilman).

The Public Safety Commission reviews issues involving public safety and the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station and makes recommendations to the City Council.

Here we go again…
Did Horvath get Montemayor on the CSW Board? She uses her influence to get people she likes influential positions. Just more of the same.
