July 24

July 25
Grand Theft. 8700 block Shoreham Drive at 7:30 a.m. A tenant removed kitchen appliances, two televisions, stereo equipment and a computer from the apartment. Loss $12,000. #03975
Armed Robbery. 8400 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 3 to 4 a.m. A man was charging his cell phone when a man approached him and demanded his property. A struggle ensued for the victim’s backpack and the suspect was pepper sprayed in the face by the victim. The suspect released the backpack and the victim ran from the area. No loss. #03998
Vehicle Burglary. 8400 block Melrose Avenue between 9:30 and 11:43 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed a handbag containing a laptop computer, platinum ring and diamond ring from the rear floorboard area. Loss $42,000. #03959
Vehicle Burglary. 9000 block Sunset Boulevard between 9 and 10 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed a backpack containing towels and clothing from the back seat. Loss $450. #03966

Residential Burglary. 800 block San Vicente Boulevard between 12:33 and 12:35 a.m. An unknown suspect bent the bedroom window screen to gain access and removed a laptop computer from a stand located near the window. Loss $1,130. #03981
July 28
Residential Burglary. 800 block Huntley Avenue between 9:30 and 10:45 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear glass door to gain entry and ransacked the interior. The suspect removed cufflinks and perfume from the bedroom. Loss $8,000. #04026
Residential Burglary. 8700 block Dorrington Avenue between July 28 and July 2 an unknown suspect used a garage window to gain access to the attached garage and attempted to pry a door open that leads to the residence but was unsuccessful. No loss. #04033
Vehicle Burglary. 1200 block Formosa Avenue between 7 and 10 p.m. An unknown suspect ransacked the interior and removed a cell phone and sunglasses from the center console. No sign of forced entry. Loss $450. #04035
Vehicle Burglary. 1000 block Martel Avenue between 4:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. An unknown suspect removed spare change from the center console and an unloaded handgun from the trunk of the vehicle. No sign of forced entry. Loss $800. #04036

Locker Burglary. 8600 block Santa Monica Boulevard (24 Hour Fitness) at 3:40 p.m. An unknown suspect cut the lock and removed a fanny pack containing credit cards, passport, sunglasses, and a pipe from the gym locker. Loss $385. #04046
July 30
Strong Armed Robbery. Gardner Street / Santa Monica Boulevard at 3:23 p.m. A man was walking southbound on Gardner Street with another man when he was pushed to the ground from behind by two suspects. The suspects took the victim’s debit card and ran from the area. Loss $800 (damaged phone). #04073
Armed Robbery (Suspects Arrested). 600 block La Peer Drive at 8:13 p.m. A man was sitting in his car when two men approached him armed with a handgun and demanded his property. The victim ran from the car and the suspects removed a backpack and cell phone from the vehicle and fled the area. Deputies responded, located and arrested both suspects. The victim’s cell phone and backpack were recovered. Deputies also recovered two handguns used by the suspects during the robbery. #04078

One of the desk attendants at 24 Hour Fitness had told me the person responsible for the previous three thefts was caught using a stolen credit card. I am now doubting that story, and agree that it would be useful for members to have the management made a statement. At the very least something from the Sheriff’s Department about this problem, as it is continuing and doesn’t seem to be isolated.
I would really like a statement from 24 Hour management about their security measures in light of all these locker room thefts.
Who in their right mind leaves platinum and diamond rings in their car?
