TenOverSix, the shop on Melrose Avenue known for combining fashion, art and design, is moving to Miami.

The move was reported Thursday in Apparel News, the apparel industry trade publication.

TenOverSix opened nine years ago and has done well according to Kristen Lee, the shop’s co-owner and creative director. “I love being there. There’s great foot traffic. But it felt like the right time to move on,” Lee said in an interview with Apparel News. ”The bottom line for us is it feels like a crowded market. I’d rather put my resources into an emerging market.”

Lee’s business partner, Brady Cunningham, who runs TenOverSix’s second shop, in Dallas, told Racked, the retail website, that the move would allow him to reduce his travel schedule. Cunningham, who lives in Austin, Tex., said she has to travel often to New York, Paris and Miami as well as to Los Angeles.

TenOverSix brought the “concept shop” approach to Los Angeles when it first opened. It offers apparel with brands such as Nomia and A Piece Apart. And it also offers accessories, gifts and housewares. The five-year lease on its location at 8425 Melrose Ave. is expiring, which prompted Cunningham and Lee to consider another location.

The 2,000-square-foot shop in Miami will be adjacent to a bar owned by Lee’s husband, Joe Cole. Cole also plans to open a hotel in the Little River district where TenOverSix will be located.

The Melrose Avenue shop, which sits just over the border of West Hollywood, is set to close late next month, with the store planning a sale offering an 80% discount.
