An early morning collision on Fountain Avenue just outside West Hollywood today left one person dead and that east-west artery closed to traffic for several hours.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a driver headed north on Curson Avenue in a blue KIA at a high rate of speed failed to stop at the stop sign on Curson and collided with a Honda Accord that was traveling west at a high rate of speed on Fountain. The accident, which occurred at around 2 a.m., killed the driver of the west bound car. The other driver was arrested and taken to the LAPD’s Hollywood Station for booking.

The crash destroyed a fire hydrant on the north side of Fountain, sending streams of water into the air. The driver who was killed was in his 40s and a resident of Panorama City.  NBC 4 reported that there were three other people in his car. Their condition currently is unknown.

Very Sad! Prayers for the victims family. My cousin back East lost his son in a similar type of accident. His son was 17 and was the victim. Everything in Moderation, Please! (>

It matters not how fast he westbound vehicle was allegedly traveling when the other driver was DUI. The drunk driver was speeding North on Curson and “t-boned” the other car, killing its driver instantly. He’s in jail for manslaughter. The victim is not at fault here. He can’t be issued a speeding ticket anyway because he’s dead. There is more in depth coverage on KNBC and KABC news websites.

I used to live at Fountain and Ogden. The main reason I left West Hollywood was the reckless driving and constant anxiety I’d have of being hit on my bicycle or walking. It was totally routine to hear a car crash, walk outside with the neighbors, almost a few times every week on that stretch of Fountain between La Brea and La Cienega. Speeder’s paradise, resident’s nightmare.

Although it was reported the westbound vehicle may have been speeding the cause of the accident was the other vehicle failing to stop for the Stop Sign. During the day most vehicles I have observed and traveling at the speed limit 35 mph. Late at night is another story. It does look like a freeway with vehicles traveling in excess of 40 or 50 mph. I live on a residential street south of Fountain and vehicles use it mostly in the morning as a short cut and speed down the hill well over the 25 mph speed limit. I haven’t… Read more »

Something has to be done about drivers who drive above the speed limit and fail to stop at Stop Signs. I live on Olive Dr. and it’s like a freeway early in the morning. Not only is it used as a short cut to Santa Monica Bl. but I have estimated cars going 40 to 50 mph down the hill. While I have noted traffic calming measures on Kings Rd and Sweetzer there are none on Olive Dr. Perhaps more motor officers need to be assigned to West Hollywood as well as Hollywood along Fountain Ave. Although it was reported… Read more »

That is a very dangerous corner. There are accidents there frequently. There have been fatal accidents there in the past also; this isn’t the first. I heard last night’s crash. People ignore the “Right Turn Only” sign on Curson constantly.
