Model of the Garden of Allah Is Up for Sale

Once the Garden of Allah, home in 1918 to actress Alla Nazimova and later, as a residential hotel, to a myriad of other actors, performers and writers. Then, after been bulldozed in 1959, a strip mall housing a Chase bank building. Soon a mega-complex with nine- and 16-story apartment buildings and 111,000 square feet of retail space.

As with so much else in Los Angeles, the southwest corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights boulevards on the border with West Hollywood continues to evolve. But in David Meyers’ living room the Garden of Allah has lived on in a three-dimensional model encased in glass.

That model now is for sale according to Alison Martino’s Vintage Los Angeles, the leading source for information about the history of West Hollywood and the Sunset Strip.

Martino notes that Meyers is the son of the man who created the original sign for the Garden of Allah villas and also was one of the engineers involved in creating the iconic HollywoodLand sign (now simply Hollywood).

If you’d like to bid on Meyers’ historic model, contact Martino at Vintage Los Angeles.

A model of a parking lot would be soooo much nicer, right? “They’ve paved paradise and put up a parking lot”
