Former Los Angeles Controller Wendy Greuel has landed the endorsement of state Assemblymember Richard Bloom in her race for Congress. Greuel, a Democrat, is one of 25 candidates running for the seat that U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman will be leaving. She “will be a fighter for us in Washington DC, on issues like getting traffic moving again in the Westside and improving our environment,” Bloom said. “From Malibu to Beverly Hills and Santa Monica to the South Bay, Wendy Greuel is the leader our district needs. There is no one more qualified to fill the shoes of Congressman Henry Waxman.” Bloom represents the 50th Assembly district serving Agoura Hills, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Topanga, West Hollywood and much of West Los Angeles, Hancock Park and Hollywood. Greuel is a candidate for the 33rd congressional district. She was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2013 race for mayor of Los Angeles, coming in second to Eric Garcetti. West Hollywood is represented by U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff of the state’s 28th Congressional District. Bloom joins a long list of politically prominent figures who have endorsed Greuel, including Attorney General Kamala Harris, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, U.S. Rep. Tony Cardenas, U.S. Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard and Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian. One of her leading opponents is state Sen. Ted Lieu, who represents the state’s 28th District, which encompasses West Hollywood abnd will become part of the 26th District for the primary election in June. Lieu this week received endorsements from state Treasurer Bill Lockyer and Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. EDITOR’S NOTE:  An earlier version of this story erred in saying that West Hollywood is in the 30th Congressional District. WeHo is in the 28th Congressional District, which is represented by U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff.

This has nothing to do with West Hollywood local news. Henry Waxman used to represent us, but after the 2010 redistricting, we were placed in Adam Schiff’s district. I know it’s confusing since Waxman repped us for so long, but it’s not a race with direct impact on WeHo.
