Book It: ‘WeHo Reads’ Week to Celebrate ‘The Age of Dreaming’

West Hollywood will put on the first-ever WeHo Reads, a community-wide celebration of reading and literature, in early October. The event will feature events, panels and book discussions inspired by the program’s featured book “The Age of Dreaming” by author Nina Revoyr.

Events will include:

Sunday, Sept. 29: West Hollywood Book Fair
The kick off for Weho Reads will include a limited number of free books provided by the Friends of the West Hollywood Library.
Library will be available. No RSVP needed.
Location/time: West Hollywood Park from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 1: West Hollywood Women’s Book Club
Women’s discussion of “The Age of Dreaming.” No RSVP needed.
Location/time: West Hollywood Library Community Room from 7-8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 2: Nina Revoyr in conversation with David Ulin
A conversation between the author of “The Age of Dreaming” and David Ulin, author and LA Times Book Critic.
Location/Time: City Council Chambers at the WeHo Library from 7-9 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 4: Secrets, Scandals, Sordid Stories and the Silver Screen
A panel of fiction and non-fiction authors take a fun and serious look at Hollywood’s colorful history. The panel will be moderated by Alex Espinoza and features Jerry Roberts, WEHOville Publisher Henry Scott, Jerry Stahl and Carol Wolper.
Location/Time: City Council Chambers at the WeHo Library from 7-9 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 5: Hollywood Places / Hollywood People
In this special “double feature,” Don Seligman speaks about the places that were important to early Hollywood as chronicled in his recent book on the Silent Movie Era and Tom Gregory presents “Talking Pictures,” a lecture/presentation based on his unique collection of vintage, signed photos from Hollywood’s yesteryear.
Location/Time: City Council Chambers at the WeHo Library from 4-6 p.m.

Bonus Event — Saturday, Oct. 12: Silent Movie Screening
Silent film featuring Sessue Hayakawa, who was the real-life inspiration for “The Age of Dreaming.”

WeHo Writes

Weho Writes is a free program in which West Hollywood residents who are writers (published or self-published) may sign up to exhibit, share and sell their work for 1-3 hours each in a shared space at the West Hollywood Book Fair on Sunday, Sept. 29. For more information on the Book Fair, visit www.whbf.org.

To participate, you must be a West Hollywood resident and have published work to exhibit. Book Fair staff will review your application and notify you of its acceptance. The deadline to submit an application is Wednesday, Sept. 4. Notifications will be sent out by Sept. 15.
